Fleetguard FF63009 Fuel Filters Recalled

September 24, 2014

Cummins Filtration has issued a recall of more than 63,000 fuel filters due to the possibility of failure during service. The fuel filters in question were distributed in both the aftermarket and on some Cummins engines manufactured earlier in 2014.

The recall affects Fleetguard FF63009 (UFF-XT) fuel filters, According to Cummins Filtration, the bond that attaches the filter shell to the filter end plate could fail. If this occurs, the shell may separate from the fuel filter end plate, causing a potential engine stall without warning and without the possibility to restart the engine until the fuel filter is replaced.

It is estimated that 42,000 of these filters were distributed as replacement fuel filters in the aftermarket. Another 21,600 were installed in Cummins ISB engines built between April 28th and July 9th 2014 and in ISL engines built from April 30th to July 8th 2014.

Approximately 25% of the FF63009 fuel  filters are believed to have this defect, according to Cummins Filtration.

Cummins said will notify its OEM and distributor customers of this recall and will work with these customers to identify and notify affected vehicle owners and aftermarket purchasers. Product remaining in customer inventory will be replaced with new, non-defective product, and installed product will replaced, without charge, through the Cummins service network.

The fuel filter recall began during August and the Cummins’ campaign code for recall is C1545.

Cummins advises customers to check the date code on FF63009 filters bought after April 25. The date code is the first five digits in the string of 13 digits located on the side of the filter near the end plate. If the code is between 14115 and 14180, Cummins say not to use the product.

Equipment and vehicles that could be using the FF63009 fuel filter include buses, motorhomes, trucks and off-highway equipment in North America. Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) affected by this recall include Autocar, Blue Bird Corporation, Blue Diamond Truck, Capacity of Texas, Crane Carrier Corp., Daimler Trucks North America, Dennis Chassis, El Dorado National, Emergency One, Ferrara Fire Apparatus, Gillig Corp., Global Sweeping Solutions, HME Inc, IC Bus of Oklahoma LLC, Navistar, New Flyer Industries, Paccar, Kenworth, Kovatch Mobile Equipment, Linkbelt, Mack Trucks, North American Bus Industries, Novabus, Ottawa Truck Corp., Peterbilt, Pierce Rosenbauer Motors Manufacturing, Seagrave Fire Apparatus, Spartan Motors, Sunny D Manufacturing, Sutphen Corporation, Temsa Global, Terex Global Business Services, Terminal Investment Corporation, Tiffen Motorhomes, Thomas Built Bus.
